Our creative and proactive students have superior skills in style, tone, grammar, and writing structure. They bring with them strength in communication, experience in content creation, editing skills, and basic experience in WordPress and InDesign.

During the internship, students receive ongoing mentoring from a faculty member in the professional writing program, as well as on-campus help and feedback to support their on-internship work.

• Social Media Platforms: Interns help develop the online persona of their employer, and engage with the public on various social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
• Copywriting: Students create interesting and compelling content targeted to a specific market. They help to develop a voice, brand, and written presence for their employer.
• Proposal Writing: Students use critical thinking and analytical skills to identify problems and their solutions and articulate them to others.
• Web Content Writing: Interns create accessible, industry-specific blog posts and website content, staying current on industry trends and writing articles relevant to contemporary issues or events.
• Internet SEO Content: Students who work on content marketing will focus on SEO and shareability when writing articles. They will also work with other team members writing their own articles.
• Editing: Student interns can proofread for errors as well as content and flow.

We’ve intentionally designed this to be a flexible program to best meet your individual needs. We do ask that providers offer the following:

• At least 5 hours/week of meaningful (ideally project-based) work experience for each intern (though some students will have the flexibility to work more hours).
• Regular and constructive feedback to the intern
• Feedback and evaluations when requested by the BYU English Department

Starting in October, we reach out to potential providers to better understand their intern needs. In November, we begin matching students with providers. Providers always have the option of accepting or rejecting our recommendations. Placement may continue into early January.
